"Prisoner of Conscience" is a project i
niciado with the development of a piece inserted in the Art Route, located in the Natural Park of the Sierra de Huelva, in Almonaster la Real. (Inaugurated in September 2010 and present until September 2011). It consists of a large ball (70 cm diameter) made of iron, formed by the letters that come from a poem by San Juan de la Cruz. This creates a visual paradox as a metaphor. The absurd act of apprehending a tree is similar to arresting someone for their ideas. Thought is free. There is no prison that can enclose ideas. It is the second poem of Saint John of the Cross (1542-1591) from his book "Spiritual Canticle", which reads as follows: Pastors, those that you force / there by the sheepfolds to the hillock, / if by chance vierdes /the one that I love the most, / dezilde that I adore, I suffer and I die.
Poem written during his imprisonment. Imprisoned by the Church itself in a prison-convent accused of being an apostate, for defending her own faith and conscience.Today this fills us with perplexity and stupor. Fanaticisms that continue accompanying us in our daily routine in a global and apparently civilized world.
